Default Topic of the Week, Words that begin with "Q"

Q is for Quiet. Quiet your mind, stop the debate and learn to trust in the program and the God of your understanding.

Quiet the old tapes, make new ones. Remember you are the one who pushes play and rewind. Fast forward in today, and know what was will not re-occur if you work the program and invite your God into your new Life.

Quiet those old words, "It was good for the past 20 years, why change it now?"

Quiet the words, "I am an alcoholic/addict what do you expect?"

It is my hope that you will be able to be willing and open to change. Your best thinking got you to the doors of recovery, why should you choose to bring it into today. It is a process, so quit beating yourself up. You didn't become an alcoholic/addict overnight, you can't repair things immediately. Quit thinking of your God as a quick fix. Just maybe He/She wants you to learn a few lessons on the way and wants you to quit your belly aching. Quit blaming your God and others, take responsibility for your own actions.

Q is for Quit. Quit thinking of yourself as less than human. You are worthy of recovery.

Quit trying to shut down, escape reality, and using substances to take you away from your thinking. The drugs are not the issue. It was my thinking behind the drinking and drugging that got me to where I was prior to opening the door of recovery.

Quit using, just for today. For this 24 hours, I don't have to use. I wake up in the morning and ask for help and give thanks at night for another day. When you work the Steps and follow the suggestions of the program, you can quit blaming others, and look at yourself. Look at where your decisions took you. Do you want to stay there or go back there, or reap the benefits of the Promises in the Big Book.

Q is for Quit. Quit looking out, look within. When we do a 4th Step, it isn't to look at the same and guilt, and we don't do it with fear, but to find out what is in there. We are often surprised at what is there. Take it out of the dark, bring it into the Light for healing and an honest look at it. It loses it's power, and can no longer fester and grow within. You are not your disease. Your disease as ruled your life, take back your power.

Quote:
Even in today, I can still be the rebel and it is good to know, progress, not perfection.

Over the years, I have spoken at different fellowships, AA, CA, Al-Anon and DRA (Dual Recovery Anonymous) This was a new experience for me, yet I know that I am but a channel and when I connect with God, He will do the telling not me if I get out of the way. That is why I always try to say the 3rd and 7th Step Prayers before I speak or before I share. I need to get out of the "I" and quit taking credit for the gift of my recovery. I can quit worrying and being anxious and life in faith and trust my God will give me what I need in today.

Often we are the last to see things about ourselves and we are the last to know. Sometimes it is denial, sometimes it is just not able to accept goodness and love into our lives. It all has to come from within me in order for me to give. I was told, you have to top yourself up and just give away the overflow.

This was a hard lesson for me to learn, many times I found myself running on empty. You can't go far on fumes. My God is my Source. Unless I take time with Him, the words do not come. Lately, with my head aches, high blood pressure, and Fibro Fog, not too many thoughts have come through and yet it has been a time that I have spent a lot of time going inward.

I was spreading myself too thinly and just not enough of me to go around. My sites were neglected. My e-mails piled up and I kept deleting them. I had no energy or inclination or inspiration, and it was like the well had run dry.

So God and I are working on it. Have had some down time, and more is needed to get things balanced. As I said to my doctor today, "I use to get a word or see a picture, and a story would be there." I would think through the pain, and now that I have no pain, the thoughts have not been there. That means, I need to get back to basics, and not let life dictate my life, causing blocks and barriers.

Quit thinking you are just F.I.NE. (Frustrated, Insecure, Neurotic, and Enjoying it) and be honest as to where you are at in today. It is a one day at a time program. Quit thinking you already done it, that was yesterday, this is today. Some days you need to apply all 12 Steps.

Q is for Quarrel. Quit quarrelling with yourself. Quit the should I shouldn't I, you end up shoulding all over the place. No more what if? This is a one day program. You can't take it back, it is done! It is a one day at a program, it is a new day. We need to get out of the way and allow our God to work through us.

Q is for Quick. This is not a quick fix program. It is a process that will quicken your mind, allow you that pause to quiet your mind and make the decision as to what choice you will make. Do I want to quit using people, places and/or things or do I want to quit doing the do things that will aid my recovery.

We don't have to be quick while we do the Steps, they too are a process and as we grow and stay sober, we get new enlightenment and awareness. The only Step we need to do 100% is Step One. If I don't, I set myself up for quick step which will lead me back to where I came from.

It isn't just about quitting drinking or using, it is about looking at your life and accept it for what it was and what it is in today.

Q is for Quaint. Some people look at the AA program as quaint (attractively unusual or old-fashioned) and old news. It may be old news but it has stood the test of time, and still works in today.

For me, it has worked and although I may add my outlook to it, when I am not feeling quite right, I need to go back to basics. Some how the old is ever new in today. Quit trying to find fault and pick it apart, try applying it to your life and allow it to make you whole and complete. Quit finding fault, it works when you work for it. Don`t knock it if you haven`t tried it. Did you follow the suggestions or just took what you wanted and ignored the rest?

Q is for Question. Don`t question yourself, know you are a child of God. Don`t question God, He shows His power and glory in the world around us, don`t blame God for man`s mistakes, including our own.

Question your direction, do you still want to continue on the path you are taking or do you need to take a U-Turn or a detour. Question your thinking, do you have your perspective and awareness based in reality. Don`t question yourself, but do ask if you are still living in your disease. Does our disease still rule our life?

There is not any stupid questions. How are we suppose to know what we have never been taught?

Q is for Quell. Stop the stinking thinking! Take it to the God of your understanding and ask Him to quell the dis-ease behind my disease

.
Quote:

quell
kwel/Submit
verb
1.
put an end to (a rebellion or other disorder), typically by the use of force.
"extra police were called to quell the disturbance"
synonyms: put an end to, put a stop to, end, crush, put down, check, crack down on, curb, nip in the bud, squash, quash, subdue, suppress, overcome; informalsquelch
"troops quelled the unrest"
Well whatever way I look it, quit my belly aching and do something about it. Staying in the same space and not making any changes to quell the disquiet in your life, is a show of little faith and no trust.

Q is for Quitters

There is a saying that quitters never win but I disagree. We are quitters who have won by choosing to stay sober and clean one day at a time.

Q is for Don't Quit before the miracle happens.

Q is for Quilt. Don't pull a quilt over your head and hide in your bed. Life is for living, quit isolating, get up, dress up, and show up for the day. Participaction means being a part of your life, not a spectator.
