Topic of the Week, words beginning with the letter "X"

X is for X-Ray. Picture what is inside of you. Does your insides match your outside. A good way to take an x-ray, is to do a 4th Step.

X is for 'Xpectations. 'Xpectations can be killers. We need to lower them so they are attainable. We need to remember that some people are just not capable of meeting them. When we lower our eXpectations and raise our level of acceptance, the Big Book says, "We will never have it so good."

X is for Xenophelia. The fear of strangers and alien. I don't know about anyone else, but I felt like I was an alien walking this planet as a misfit. It was great to come home to AA and feel like I had found home. They say "X" marks the spot. The spot for me was AA.

X is for 'Xtreme. Thanks to the 12 Steps and the program of recovery, I no longer have those eXtreme highs and lows that I had prior to recovery. Thanks to the tools of the program, I can find balance, living in today.

X is for 'Xtra. Put some eXtra work into working your program. If you only put out half the effort you put in to getting your next fix, you will stay clean and sober.

Spend eXtra time with your Higher Power. Meditation gives you a new outlook on life, especially your own.

X is for 'Xistance. Before recovery, all I did was eXist. I didn't put anything into my life, my whole focus was on using people, places, and things to get what I wanted. As they say, "X" marks the spot." If I thought you could help me escape my reality and take me out of myself, you were my mark. I was eXisting, I wasn't living.

I is for 'Xtent. We only get out of this program what we put into it. The eXtent of our work we put into it, doing service in our group, in the community, and in recovery institutions like detox, the local jail, treatment centers, going to meetings, will show in our recovery. Without service, I would not have sobriety and my recovery would be non-existent.

X is for EXample. We can't talk to an addict if they aren't willing to quit, but we can show by example the gifts that recovery have helped us. Hopefully they will look at us and say, "I want what she/he has."

X is for 'Xtra. God that eXtra mile. We went to any length to obtain our drugs. We need to go to any length to obtain our sobriety. There are natural highs in recovery. So much more healthier than those from our past.

X is for Xenophobia. The 12 Steps take away the fear and gives us faith to take that next step and to let go of our fears and phobias. As they say, "There are no strangers in AA, just people I haven't met yet."

X is for X marks the Spot. X is the spot in your life when you come to it, you ask yourself, "Enough is Enough," or "Am I in recovery or am I acting out in my disease."

X is for EXample. We may be the only Big Book someone sees. God works in our life, and we don't always realize how much He is there for us. We need to be eXtra grateful for those little things that become a big thing.

X is for eXam. Examine your motive and intent. Are you doing things for the right reason. Is it your want and desire, or something projected onto you by others. Examine your life's purpose. Is it for your Higher Purpose.
