R is for Relapse. It is not a recovery tool, it is part of your disease. If you don't deal with what got you to the doors of recovery, you will find that the door swings both ways and you will find yourself back where you came from. This is a progressive disease, and you relapse won't only take you back to where you where when you quit, but it will take you down even farther than you have been before.

R is for Right and Wrong. There is none, there is only the way that works for you. What is right for you one day, may not work for you another day. Don't reject something becaue of the past, live in the moment, live in today.

R is for Remember When. Remember early recovery as well as life before recovery. I never want to forget the week of detoxing, I never want to go through that again.

As the saying goes, "I may have another relapse in me; but I don't know if I have another recovery."

R is for Refuge. If you feel threatened or feel like drinking, pick up the phone and call another still suffering alcoholic/addict and run to the closest meeting. I qualified for just about any Fellowship, so I had lots of choices. I also needed to remember, alcohol is a drug.

R is for Rejoice

Rejoice in the manageability of your new life in sobriety!

R is for Rejoice. Make a joyful noise unto the Lord. Rejoice that you are clean and sober. Share the message of recovery with others.

R is for Relax. Take some time out and relax. One of the readings yesterday mentioned taking a day to relax your body and your mind, and get in touch with your spiritual side. We need to be mindful of our physical and emotional sobriety, but without a spiritual connection, we don't have a defense against our disease. We get busy asking and forget to take time to find the answers.

R is for Remember When. We not only need to remember our past before recovery, we need to remember that it was like in early recovery. Remember when I was detoxing. I never want to go through that again.

R is Restore. The program can restore us to sanity. It says it could, it doesn't say it would. As some guys like to say, when I get my two brain cells I got left lined up, I have a good day. I know mine were when I was able to play bridge again.

R is for Renew. Renew yourself. Go back to basics. Take time for yourself and practice self-care. We can't give away what we haven't got. When was the last time you did step work?

R is for Rest. About time to give my computer a rest. Me, I am off to make chocolate drop cookies and hope and pray they turn out. The reality is that I am not feeling well, so they may not, but I am hungry, and cookies make me feel better, then I can have my rest.

R is for Remember

Remember that addiction is cunning, baffling, and powerful!

MajestyJo 08-30-2017 10:19 PM

R is for Remember. Remember how you felt in early recovery. I know I never want to repeat that time in my life, so I made the decision to stay. I realized that the people in the rooms of recovery had what I had been looking for and could never find.

R is for Restore

Step 2: We came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
